1928 - 1941
- The first Five Year plan had an emphasis on agriculture. The plan was centred around Collectivization, which saw the whole of Russia's farmland turned over the to state and reaped by "collected" farm workers.
- This lasted from 1928 to 1933
- The second of the two Five Year plans had an emphasis on Industry. As mentioned in the previous slide, this plan was based around a quota system and a Command Economy to meet the strict demands of Stalin.
- This lasted from 1933 to 1937
- Throughout the 1920s, the Soviet Union tried to participate in World affairs. This included:
- Signing the Kellogg-Briand Pact in 1928, denouncing the war.
- Joining the
- League of Nations in 1934. '
- Signing various non-aggression pacts.
- Expressing a strong concern for the prominence of Fascism and the rise of Japan in the 1930s.

Subjunctive Question: During the Cold War, the Soviet Union's activity in the League of Nations might be (perhaps too simplistically) summed up in basically vetoing every Untied States proposition. If they have participated honestly in the League of Nations, could this have helped legitimize the League? Could it have diffused the tension of the war? Helped Communism have an effective history in Russia?
