Background to the Revolution
In the 1800s, the Russian Empire was by far the largest.
Despite it's breadth, it's people were quite antiquated (living on mainly agricultural means). Because of this national simplicity, they were not seen as a world power (yet still seen as a European power).
In a disastrous naval battle with Japan, the entire Russian fleet was sunk. The Czar of Russia was held responsible for this failure, and rising tensions between the people and the Czar resulted in the "duma," which can be described as an increased compromise by the people and the Czar.

The 1917 Revolution
- The revolution started with riots inspired by the hunger of the people, taking place in the city of Petrograd.
- The main aim of the riots was the desire held by the people for Russia to pull out of the war and for the Royal family to be taken down from leadership in Russia.
"There is no justice among men."
- Nicholas II Subjunctive question: What if the Czar had decided to comply to the requests of the people? Would the Soviet Union even come to be?
